About me

Where I'm from

I'm Luo as they come and go, educated in both rural and urban settings. I guess you can say I'm at a sweet spot between a bumpkin and a metrosexual. Ok, bad joke. Anyways, after finishing my primary school studies in 2008 at Arina primary school, I joined Lenana school where I was introduced to the world of computers for the first time. I finished high school and proceeded to join Maseno University in 2013 where I studied Industrial Chemistry with IT. In 2017 I, graduated second class upper and after 5 years of doing menial jobs here and there I got an internship position at KEPHIS where for the first time I got the chance to actually do what I studied for. It would occur to me during this time that I really love computers.

Transition to Tech

During my internship, I bought a used PC and got down to learning how to code I started with Python and then added HTML, CSS and JavaScript later. Youtube has been a very resourceful tool in my learning. I think the internet might be the most underused thing of our time. It is a literal information powerhouse that can be used for evil and good alike.

Now

In the course of my self-teaching, I have happened to get online gigs that just happened to align with my interest, even though I did not specifically go out of my way to look for them. One might call it a stroke of good luck. I have configured cracked passwords, participated in CTF challenges, tightened server security and even reverse-engineered code. I'm literally an armchair DevOPs!

My Projects

I deployed my first website this year. You can interact with it at kephonelisting. It is a web scraper built with Django backend and React front end. I also have another personal project that I have as yet to deploy. It is an online Linux learning platform. I used Django, Docker, Celery and React for this project. I'm still learning by the day since tech world is a whole ocean of knowledge.

Who I plan to Meet

I really want to meet a brilliant team of Devs who can make me learn a lot more in web development, best security practices in programming. I'm currently in Nairobi. I like remote roles but I think in-person jobs are infinitely better especially for newbies in any field.
